DESCRIPTION:Moonlight Paddle – Fenton Mill Pond – April 30th – Cancelled due to rain/cold. \nOur paddle will be on the Fenton Mill Pond at Strom Park on East St. We will paddle up stream to Wilson Lake and back.  You will need lights for the back of your boat so you can be seen but does not blind the person/s behind you.Be ready to have your boat and gear out and your vehicle parked so we can be on the water by 6:00.Those who want to continue the evening after we return can join us at Fenton House. Moonrise will be around 7:57. Sunset will be at 8:34pm. We should have a beautiful evening. \nAll trips require life jackets that fit and are properly fastened. You and your gear should not exceed the weight limit of your boat. Our river routes are scenic but may require navigating around fallen trees or portaging. \nTrips are subject to change depending on the weather or other unforseen circumstances. DESCRIPTION:Learn to Kayak Class – May 23rd – Cancelled\nOur Learn to Kayak class scheduled for Saturday has been canceled because of low registration (3 people) and expected cool\, wet weather. We will be offering a mini class before our Thursday Moonlight Paddle at 5:45. Please send an email to paddling@keepersoftheshiawassee.org if you will be taking part and if you will need a kayak.\n  \nKeepers of the Shiawassee is offering a learn to kayak class on Saturday\, May 23 at the Linden Eagles Wooden Park pavilion at 11:00 followed by a paddle on the Linden Mill Pond. This $20 class will be taught by an ACA certified instructor with over 15 years of experience.She will help you get off to a great start on your water adventures whether you have been kayaking for a few years or are just starting out. Learn how to safely get in and out of your kayak and how using the foot braces and a basic forward stroke can make your paddling more efficient and less tiring.  The instructor will discuss types of kayaks and which is best for your type of paddling\, safety equipment and how to transport your boat. You will learn how to tell when it is safe to paddle and how to stay safe once on the water (no crowding on winding rivers). After “class” instruction we’ll move to the Linden Mill Pond to practice. Experienced paddlers will be on the water with you to give further instructions.You can bring your own boat or we will have kayaks\, paddles and life-jackets (PFDs) for use through Shiawassee River Shuttle. This class is for persons 12 years to adults. Please pre-register at https://keepersoftheshiawassee.org/learn-to-kayak-reg/ and indicate whether or not you will need a boat.
